The Film Features A Number Of Unreal Twists That Keep The Audience

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have just changed the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever. The film features a number of unreal twists that keep the audience double-guessing what may happen next, ending in an exciting final battle.

New Team-Up

A primary character throughout the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is newcomer America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez. This character's introduction has been a major part of the film's marketing, as her existence in the MCU seems to further the longstanding theory that Marvel Studios is setting up a Young Avengers team.

While the MCU is setting up several teams for its next phases, the Young Avengers lineup seems to be taking shape much faster than others, with major team members like Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Ezekiel Bradley, and Ms. Marvel already set up to form the MCU's youngest superhero team. With America Chavez now officially remaining in the MCU, it seems like her presence on this team is inevitable.

The End Of Dark Magic?

The Darkhold plays a major role throughout the film, as it is Wanda's main source of access to the multiverse. However, its dark power has a draining control over the Scarlet Witch, corrupting her as it does everyone else who reads it. In the end, the book is destroyed, along with the temple which housed the original writings, implying that the Darkhold is now lost forever to all universes.

With the Darkhold gone, it begs the question of whether or not magic derived from dark sources can still work. It would seem that the book of the damned was a major source for the magic of both Wanda and Agatha Harkness, the two most prominent witches in the MCU. It will be interesting to see how their powers have been altered with the book's destruction, if they have changed at all.

New Illuminati?

Halfway through the film, the Steven Strange from Earth-616 is brought before the Illuminati, which acted as a major part of the movie's marketing. There, Strange is introduced to the very concept of a secret organization that governs the world from the shadows, perhaps giving him the idea to set up such a council in his own world.

The members of the Illuminati depicted in Multiverse of Madness meet their grisly ends one by one as Wanda makes short work of the team of heroes. However, the concept of this secret council is no small matter, and this likely isn't the last audiences have seen of such a group. With most of its characters only just beginning their time in the MCU, Strange may return to his world with a new purpose in uniting the greatest minds he can find in his own secret Illuminati.

The Inhumans

Perhaps one of the most surprising additions to the Illuminati was that of the most powerful of the Inhumans, Black Bolt himself. Black Bolt, portrayed by Anson Mount, who reprises his role from The Inhumans, is the king of his people. He is a major character from the comics, who may signal more to come of the Inhumans in the MCU.

While The Inhumans is considered to be one of Marvel's greatest failures, it would seem that Marvel Studios isn't shying away from the show's existence. Including Black Bolt in the Illuminati implies that Marvel may yet have plans for the Inhumans in the future of their universe, perhaps even the very same ones seen in the often-ridiculed ABC series.

The Fantastic Four

One of the most exciting cameos to emerge from Multiverse of Madness was that of Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, who was played by John Krasinski, the favorite casting choice of many fans. The character's introduction to the MCU has been long-awaited and portends the soon-coming arrival of the rest of his iconic team.

Several lines of dialogue in Multiverse of Madness hint at the existence of Richards's other team members, specifically his wife, though none of them are ever shown. Nevertheless, with the MCU's Fantastic 4 film slated for release in the next several years, fans are anxious to meet the rest of the team. In fact, some fans have already decided exactly who they want to play the other members of the Fantastic Four, including Sue Storm.

The Sorceror Supreme

A running gag between Doctor Strange and Wong has been which of them is the rightful Sorcerer Supreme. While Strange had always held this title in the MCU, Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed that Wong had taken over his duties after his death at the hands of Thanos. This power struggle continues in Multiverse of Madness, which finally answers which of these two sorcerers will hold such a grand title.

Throughout the film, Wong attempts to get Strange to greet him with the ceremonial bow that is due to the Sorcerer Supreme. While Strange typically brushes such requests off, one of the film's final scenes shows Strange conceding, implying that he has given up on his power struggle with Wong, letting someone else be in charge for once in his life.
