They Add Greater Depth To Characters Who Had Less Screentime

Here is a complete list of every confirmed Marvel Studios TV show coming to Disney+. In 2019 Marvel announced their plans to expand the MCU to small screen TV shows, a stark change from their first decade of movie-only content. In early 2021, WandaVision was the first of these shows to air, and by the end of the year, Disney+ had five full seasons of MCU TV shows available to stream, showing that Marvel had kept their promise. However, in the coming years, it is clear that Marvel Studios is only going to be expanding its presence further on the small screen with a huge number of shows planned alongside their large MCU feature films.

With their Disney+ TV shows, Marvel has been able to take previous supporting characters and give them starring roles. In this process, they add greater depth to characters who had less screentime but also get to use a familiar face to help introduce other new heroes who will play key roles in Marvel's plans for the MCU's Phase 4 and beyond. When they were first announced, the Disney+ shows might have seemed like extracurricular reading merely intended to supplement the movies. Five seasons later and it is extremely clear that the Disney+ MCU TV shows are just as important to the MCU's central plotline as the main movies themselves. In Loki alone, the TV show helped to establish the concept of the multiverse in the MCU and introduced Kang the Conqueror who promises to be a major villain, already confirmed to appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Marvel's upcoming release schedule seems to almost alternate new movies with Disney+ TV shows and there's definitely a lot of interplay between the two. It can be hard to keep track of what is coming out when and which parts of Marvel's rich comic history are set to arrive on screen. So, here's every upcoming Marvel TV show that is confirmed to be in the works for Disney+. The content is expected to be part of the MCU, unless otherwise stated.

She-Hulk

Jennifer Walters is gearing up for her MCU debut too, as she will be the lead character in the She-Hulk Disney+ series. The eventual introduction of She-Hulk comes after Avengers: Endgame left Hulk weakened. Mark Ruffalo is set to return as Bruce Banner, with Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany cast in the titular role. Joining the pair of Hulks are Tim Roth as Abomination, Ginger Gonzaga as She-Hulk's best friend, and Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry as Amelia. There's no word yet on what the story will include, but the series will consist of ten half-hour episodes.

Marvel hired Jessica Gao (Rick and Morty) to serve as the showrunner on the series and she assembled a writer's room to work on the series. Filming was scheduled to begin in the summer of 2020 ahead of a possible 2022 release on Disney+, but it was delayed. She-Hulk has begun filming and is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, and a first look was released as part of Disney+ Day 2021.

Secret Invasion

Starring Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as Nick Fury and the Skrull Talos, respectively, Secret Invasion is set to follow the characters as they attempt to prevent a group of shape-shifting Skrulls from taking over the world. As fans will recall, Talos pretended to be Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home, so this won't be the first time the pair will be working together. Joining the series are Olivia Colman, Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke, One Night in Miami's Kingsley Ben-Adir. Written by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion will consist of six episodes also releasing in 2022. As part of Disney+ Day 2021, a first-look of Secret Invasion was released showing an older Nick Fury with a gray beard and missing his iconic eyepatch.

Ironheart

Starring Judas and the Black Messiah actress Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Iron Heart is set to follow the titular character, a genius engineering student who creates her own Iron Man suit. There aren't too many details about Ironheart, but Marvel has hired Snowpiercer's Chinaka Hodge as head writer. The series is set to consist of six episodes. However, it's unclear when filming on the series will begin or when it's expected to premiere on Disney+.

Armor Wars

First announced in December 2020, Armor Wars is yet another Disney+ series starring a well-known figure in the MCU. That figure is none other than James Rhodes (aka, War Machine). The series will follow Rhodes as he deals with Tony Stark's Iron Man technologically falling into the wrong hands. Besides Don Cheadle reprising his role, no one else has been cast in Armor Wars, which is expected to begin filming in Atlanta this year.

Echo

Introduced as part of Hawkeye, Echo is a deaf superhero from the Marvel Comics who can mimic other people's body movements. Both in the Hawkeye Disney+ TV show and in her original comics appearances, Echo starts out as an antagonist and transitions to be more of an antihero-cum-superhero. Additionally, Echo has ties to Kingpin and with the introduction of Wilson Fisk to the MCU in Hawkeye, it can be assumed that he will play some part in Echo's story. Echo's real name is Maya Lopez and she is played by Alaqua Cox in both Hawkeye and Echo. Etan and Emily Cohen are attached to write the new series, but no other details are known about the MCU's Disney+ spin-off show as it is still reportedly in the relatively early stages of development.

Agatha: House Of Harkness

Announced as part of Disney+ Day 2021, Agatha: House of Harkness is a spinoff show following the fan-favorite antagonist from WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn will return as the witch Agatha Harkness with WandaVision writer Jac Schaeffer also returning for the Disney+ series. The story has not yet been revealed but will likely look at Agatha Harkness' storied past while also exploring the results of Agatha being trapped in Westview as Agnes by Wanda at the end of WandaVision.

X-Men '97

Marvel Studios announced one non-MCU show as part of Disney+ Day 2021: X-Men '97. The series plans to revisit X-Men: The Animated Series and will continue the plot directly from the show's original cancellation. Story details have not been revealed yet; however, much of the original cast is set to return, including: Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), Christopher Britton (Mr. Sinister), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Chris Potter (Gambit), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), and Alyson Court (Jubilee).

Marvel Zombies

After the success of What If...?'s take on Marvel Zombies, plenty of viewers were calling for more MCU zombies. Disney+ Day 2021 delivered on this by announcing the Marvel Zombies series. It has not been confirmed whether the show will tie to the What If...? zombie continuity, or be its own spin on the idea. Bryan Andrews will direct and Zeb Wells will write. The zombies episode of What If...? ended on one of the biggest cliffhangers of the season, and while the zombies returned for the finale, if Marvel Zombies returns to that word, Marvel Studios could finally show viewers what zombie Thanos is capable of in Wakanda.
