Exact Plot Details Have Been Largely Under Wraps On The New

Actor Eddie Redmayne has teased a scene from the upcoming third installment of the Harry Potter spin-off franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of DumbledoreThe smash-hit franchise of a generation known as Harry Potter has spurred new life through a tie-in series of movies titled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The new trilogy of films, which center on protagonist New Scamander (Redmayne), a British wizard who is thrust into the American Wizarding World during a time of unrest through the 1920s and 30s.

The new film is long anticipated, with the last installment, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald having been released in 2018. Exact plot details have been largely under wraps on the new film, with Crimes of Grindelwald leaving many storylines yet to be tied up. As with all films shooting in 2020, production on this third film has been plagued by major delays due to the pandemic, on top of the recasting of the central villain, Gellert Grindelwald. Since December of 2021, new footage, in the form of trailers and character postershas been released by Warner Bros., building excitement among the fanbase for Secrets of Dumbeldore.

Now, with mere weeks to go before the worldwide release, Eddie Redmayne has teased a brief scene between Newt and Dumbledore (Jude Law), which reveals a glimpse at the film's universal theme. In an interview with Digital SpyRedmayne paraphrases a quote in which Newt offers some touching life advice to the greatest wizard who ever lived. Check out the snippet and quote below:

"There's something that he says to Dumbledore in this movie which I adore which is that, I'm butchering it here, but we all make mistakes in life, but you can try and make things better," Redmayne continues. "It's the trying that counts. It's the aspiring to make things better that counts."

The exact context of the scene is, of course, unknown as of now. However, based on some of the footage from the trailers, it's safe to say that there will be plenty of magical mayhem between Dumbledore and Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen). Newt's quote could be referencing the "mistakes" Dumbledore made when he briefly joined forces with Grindelwald because of a deep personal bond that they shared. It's expected that Secrets of Dumbledore will dive more deeply into their backstory, detailing what exactly happened between the two wizards to cause their rivalry.

The tone of the message in this quote very much reflects that which makes Harry Potter's Wizarding World so universally appealing. Underneath all of the wands and magic and fantastical creatures, there lies a very human truth that people from all walks of life can relate to. Rowling was a master at interweaving emotional themes of pain, sacrifice and love into stories about witches and wizards. The fandom will finally discover the truth when Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore hits U.S. theaters on Friday, April 15th, 2o22.
